GC-MS Determination of Volatile Components in Tobaccos from Different Growing Areas with MAE-HS-SPME

    • A method of GC-MS for the analysis of volatile components in tobaccos from different growing areas with MAE-HS-SPME was proposed. The compounds were identified by searching with standard mass spectra and by the retention indices. Values of relative contents of the individual components were calculated by normalization of peak areas. It was found that 24, 28, 27 and 24 compounds were identified in tobaccos grown in Hunan, Guizhou, Yunnan provinces of China and in Zimbabwe, respectively, including esters, ketones, alcohols, acids, heterocyclics and alkanes, giving priority to esters and alkanes. It was found that the groupings of the volatile components in tobaccos from different growing areas were basically the same, while their values of relative contents were quite different. The MAE-HS-SPME method proposed was proved to be a simpler, faster, more efficient and environment-friendly sample pretreatment procedure.
